We should all be so fortunate to have fans like I have in @claudiabowers. Each time she texts, “Let’s talk – I have an idea” my heart jumps! This time she fulfilled a dream, inviting me to style the iconic Heathman for their holiday season.
The Heathman has been one of my favorite Portland hotels with cherished memories of taking my kids to their holiday tea after seeing the Nutcracker. The history, architecture, velvet furniture, and stellar service all led to a luxurious experience. Still love a cute photo holding my 5yo daughter (now 26) next to the enormous Christmas tree in the library. Being asked to design a few delicate holiday touches and work with chef @aandrew_shedden to design the return of their holiday tea was a delight!
Asked to add a little sparkle from the moment guests entered the hotel, I knew I wanted to step softly with the elegant features rather than toss red + green Santa everywhere. Tying simple fir garlands with velvet ribbons spoke to our region while snowflakes projected on the ceiling carried over the mezzanine lined in lit birch trees down an icy crystal chandelier thru oversized sparkly flakes “falling” in 13’ windows in the library, drifting on trees adorned with jewel-tones, and falling to a snowy blanket between each velvet sofa beckoned you to enjoy the essence of sitting in a snow globe.
Hotel guests could elevate their stay with a holiday wreath on the door to their suite, a lit tree with ornaments for decorating, cookies that would test Santa’s diet, and bubbly for parents while kids dreamt of sugar plum fairies tucked into beds that feel as if they’re made of clouds.
Heathman GM, Laura Maldonado, received a special request from the North Pole, so we placed a mailbox for kids to ensure safe delivery of their letters. He must have been pleased, as the little girl writing her note to Santa here received the kitten she wished for on Christmas morning and he brought us the dreamy reindeer pulling a sleigh of bubbly to elevate your holiday parties into unforgettable memories!
