LET ME INTRODUCE YOU to @portlandfruittreeproject a grassroots nonprofit responding to food insecurity thru the care and harvest of urban orchards feeding our community.
25+ years of my career was leading fundraising efforts of local nonprofits. Since launching @polkadotsandpicnics there has been a wish in my heart to elevate strategic events raising critical funds for small but mighty organizations doing good work to improve our community. So when @perfectfooddaysasked if I might be interested in helping a special dinner I leapt at the chance!
Today, 1 in 8 people face hunger in rural, urban and suburban communities throughout Oregon. PFTP’s mission to increase equitable access to healthful food and strengthen communities by empowering neighbors to share in the harvest and care of city-grown produce provides a community-based solution to hunger for our neighbors.
Fruit trees all over the city drop cherries, apples, figs, and more that we step on, only to wipe from our feet and move on. Rather than ignore this waste, dozens of PFTP volunteers joyfully harvest and care for these bountiful trees, then equitably distribute to families in need.
Harvest season comes with increased expenses, but this season also comes with a funding gap of nearly $10,000 (+/- water bill for one orchard). Renowned forager and local chef @cam.vs.wild is bringing his @morchellarestaurant award-winning dedication to foraged and wild foods in an active response to PFTP’s need ... the way they respond to the need of our community. Morchella is offering an unprecendented, intimate, and dare I say, spectacular, orchard to table dining experience.
6 p.m. July 27 in the beautiful Sabin Orchard – 100% of all proceeds will fund Portland Fruit Tree Project’s work caring for the trees that feed and shade our city.
Each course perfectly paired by @freelandspirits@baumanscider @stompbycv while @renegadeopera raises the octave of the evening … and ofc we be there to elevate your experience showcasing magical space!
